According to the Public Relations Department of the Institute of Physical Education and Sport Sciences, Dr. Mehdi Alinejad, Secretary-General of the National Olympic Committee, speaking at the meeting of sports community activism on the management of the effects and consequences of war on sports facilities and programs held at the Institute of Physical Education and Sport Sciences, stated: "The National Olympic Committee is actively pursuing Iran's sports rights in international arenas, and we emphasize supporting injured athletes as well as preparing for participation in upcoming competitions."
Dr. Mehdi Alinejad, regarding the adverse effects of the imposed war on the country's sports infrastructure and sports community, explained the Committee's actions and positions. He offered condolences for the martyrdom of a number of athletes and sports officials, including the head of the Ethics Committee of the National Olympic Committee, described the recent events as very tragic, and noted that such aggressive actions against sports infrastructure are unprecedented.
Alinejad added: "Immediate correspondence has been sent to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) to inform them of the human and sports dimensions of the war, including the martyrdom of 165 students, ordinary people, and a number of athletes. The destruction of sports facilities and infrastructure, including the National Olympic Academy, the 12,000‑seat Azadi Stadium, and other sports venues, has also been reported to these bodies."
Referring to the violation of the Olympic Charter and UN resolutions by the United States and the occupying regime of Jerusalem at the start of the war during the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics, he called for these countries to be punished and legally dealt with by the IOC.
The Secretary-General of the National Olympic Committee emphasized: "Although we have taken into account the influence of global powers on these bodies, we continue to prepare and send continuous reports to international sports forums and are pursuing the matter."
The Secretary-General of the National Olympic Committee further stated regarding support for athletes and national teams in various sports: "During the imposed war, the Committee's activities have continued both in‑person and remotely. For example, scholarships for 12 athletes (approximately $3,000 per person) for the Winter and Summer Olympic Games were among the important programs undertaken to maintain their morale, readiness, and security, and the Committee's activities are ongoing."
Alinejad announced efforts to send Iran's sports caravan to the 2026 Asian Beach Games in Sanya, China (late April), and added: "Despite problems with visas, flights, and other issues, planning is underway to send Iran's caravan to these games."
He also announced planning for financial assistance to federations in April of the coming year, subject to special support from the Plan and Budget Organization.
In another part of the meeting, Dr. Alinejad emphasized efforts to receive international aid for the reconstruction of sports facilities, acknowledging: "However, this aid will be negligible compared to the scale of the destruction."
In conclusion, he highlighted the need to activate lobbying efforts and to pressure international bodies to issue an official response in this regard. He also stressed the urgent need of the people for social vitality through sports and expressed hope that with cooperation and empathy, it would be possible to successfully overcome these difficult days.
