The 2026 World Intellectual Property Day commemoration, with the theme 'Intellectual Property and Sport,' was held today, Monday, April 26 (6 Ordibehesht 1405), with the presence of senior officials, inventors, designers, creators, and evaluators in the field of sports sciences at the headquarters of the National Organization for Civil Registration of Documents and Real Estate.

2026 World Intellectual Property Day Commemoration Held with Theme 'Intellectual Property and Sport' / Honoring Top Achievers of the Institute of Physical Education and Sports Sciences

According to a statement from the Public Relations Office of the Institute of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, the event was held on the occasion of April 26, the anniversary of the establishment of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). Since 2000, this day has been designated as World Intellectual Property Day with the aim of raising public understanding of the importance of protecting creativity, innovation, industrial property, and artistic works.

Attendance of Officials and Specialized Speeches

The ceremony was attended by Dr. Hassan Babaei, Head of the National Organization for Civil Registration of Documents and Real Estate; Dr. Pejman Parvin, Deputy for Strategic Affairs, Development Management and Resources; Dr. Siamak Eslami, Head of the Intellectual Property Center; Dr. Fariba Mohammadi, President of the Institute of Physical Education and Sports Sciences; and Dr. Saeed Habiba, Deputy Minister of Science, Research and Technology.

During this specialized session, managed and directed by Dr. Ali Sharifnejad, a faculty member of the Institute of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, topics such as the importance and overarching issues of intellectual property in the sports industry, challenges and solutions for intellectual property registration in Iran and the world, and the future outlook of intellectual property in light of technological advances such as artificial intelligence were discussed through specialized speeches and a panel discussion.

Officials and participants, emphasizing the strategic role of intellectual property in sports development, support for new ideas, and the commercialization of scientific and research achievements, stressed the necessity of strengthening legal and executive infrastructure in this field and supporting the country's researchers and innovators.

Honoring Top Achievers of the Institute of Physical Education and Sports Sciences

During the ceremony, top members, inventors, and evaluators of the Institute of Physical Education and Sports Sciences were honored.

Dr. Fariba Mohammadi, President of the Institute; Dr. Mohammad Taghi Amiri Khorasani, Deputy for Technology; Dr. Mostafa Afshari, Acting Deputy for Administrative, Financial and Resource Management; and Engineer Amin Hoosh-Afza, Acting Head of the Community Relations Directorate, presented honors. In the category of institute inventors: Dr. Neda Baroushak, faculty member and head of the Sports Biomechanics Research Group, and Dr. Ali Sharifnejad, faculty member and executive responsible for the Sports Engineering Research Group. In the category of honoring the Institute's evaluators: Dr. Mohammad Shariatzadeh, faculty member and Deputy for Cultural and Social Affairs, and Saeedeh Matin-Nikoo, expert responsible for the Community Relations Directorate, were honored.

Additionally, top inventors, top industrial designers, specialized evaluators in the field of sports sciences, top young inventors, and medalists at world invention competitions were also recognized.

It is worth noting that the Institute of Physical Education and Sports Sciences has been operating as the official competent authority for evaluating sports patent registrations since 2013. To date, more than 1,000 specialized sports patent applications have been evaluated by a network of expert evaluators at the Institute.
